Hardi Aged Care is a Family-Owned Business
We often get asked, “Who is Hardi?” or “Who Owns Hardi?” when families enquire about residential placement for a loved one. For many, it can be comforting to know that a loved one is being cared for by a family-owned company and not a big multinational. We are always proud to say that the Hardi Aged Care Group was started by George Hardi over 50 years ago and continues to be owned by the Hardi family to this day.
Who was its Founder?
Its Founder, George Hardi, was the son of Hungarian immigrant parents who arrived in Australia in 1952. They believed that Australia was a land of opportunity that rewarded hard workers. From an early age, George was taught about the importance of family and looking after the elderly.
George Hardi’s dream when he decided to own and operate an aged care business, was to provide the highest quality of care to the ageing population. To his credit, over half a century later, his vision remains alive and well within the Hardi Group, which is well respected within the aged care industry.
When was the first Hardi Aged Care home purchased?
In 1968, George and his wife Anne Marie, acquired their first property in Seven Hills, followed by Summer Hill in 1969, Manly Vale in 1971, Blacktown in 1980, Penrith in 1992 and the last of its six homes, Guildford, was purchased in 1998. The Hardi Group has also owned and operated aged care homes in the United States, however, all its homes are now based within the greater Sydney area.
What is different about a Hardi home?
Hardi provides care to hundreds of residents in comfortable, home-like environments. Its homes are well established in the local communities that it serves and the Group employs over 650 staff – many of which are long-serving, including some with over 35 years of tenure.
Hardi Aged Care prides itself on being an employer of choice amongst aged care professionals and always delivering quality clinical care. To deliver this care, its standard ratio of registered nurses (and nursing staff) to residents is consistently higher than the industry average.
Who owns Hardi Aged Care today?
Following George Hardi’s passing in 2000, his wife and lifetime business partner, Anne Marie, continued his legacy of owning and operating aged care facilities in Australia.
In 2016, George and Anne Marie’s son, Peter Hardi, took over from his mother.
Peter Hardi is an active supporter of a number of wildlife and childrens’ charities (click here to view some of Peter’s awards and references) and is passionate about helping those less fortunate than himself. He is active in the business today and is currently upgrading Hardi Aged Care’s six homes to continue his father’s legacy of innovation, and to meet evolving Australian aged care needs.
