Hardi Aged Care is the first major Australian aged care provider to agree to implement the YourLink app – a technology solution for seniors – across all of its facilities.
The innovative YourLink app is designed to help seniors stay in touch with their family, friends, local community and special interest groups.
CEO Rob Oxford, said Hardi is excited about the difference this app will make to its nearly 600 residents. The app enables Hardi to keep families better informed about facility activities and special moments.
“No matter how good an aged care facility is, there is no doubt that entering residential care can be a challenging and isolating time for residents and their families. This app will help residents to stay in touch with the things outside that matter most to them,” said Rob.
Based on one-to-one connections, the app will be used on iPads or iPhones in Hardi facilities, to show residents messages and photographs directly from their loved ones. Families will similarly be able to have direct virtual contact back.
“It means that residents will be able to more easily hear from their families especially when milestone events are taking place. Small moments that count, like saying hello on a birthday, or seeing a new family photo, will be able to be shared simply and quickly,” he added.
YourLink provides one of the few apps that are designed specifically for seniors. It has relevant and helpful information in an easy to use design.
According to co-founder of the app, Richard Scenna, YourLink was inspired by seeing his own grandmother in aged care.
“People often assume that seniors don’t want to know about technology and won’t benefit from smart devices. Our experience demonstrates this is not so. They are definitely interested and just need to be shown how technology can help,” explained Richard.
“We developed YourLink to help bring some joy to seniors, by helping them use technology to stay connected. We are delighted to be working with Hardi Aged Care to make this happen,” Richard said.
The app is free for Hardi Aged Care residents and families to use, and includes permissions and safeguards to protect their privacy.
Starting in Blacktown, YourLink is currently being rolled out to all of Hardi’s six facilities, with implementation expected to be completed throughout 2018.
